Summertime Catfish Memories at Oconee
The rod sticking off the back of the boat started to gently wave as though a fish might be messing with the bait, and guide Chad Smith urged patience and said, “Wait for it. Wait for it.”

Within a few seconds, the rod doubled down in a deep bend, and a big catfish was on! I have caught more than my share of good fish in years’ past, so now it was time for my grandson, Jack Trussell, to step up to the rod and do...

FCA Outdoors Hosts Shooting Sports Camp
There is nothing more rewarding in this world than leading kids to Jesus! Period!

FCA Outdoors falls under the Fellowship of Christian Athletes umbrella but focuses on more outdoors-type activities—hunting, fishing, rodeo, kayaking, canoeing, etc. The ministry hosted a shooting sports camp at Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center June 15-18, where 22 youth received shooting instructions on archery, shotguns and rifles. They also were taught instinctive shooting by James Rutland with Rutland’s Instinctive Shooting.

In addition to time on the range, a nightly worship hour was held each evening. As a GON editor, I was thrilled to receive an invitation to come and share on the first evening. The kids had a real hunger not only for the outdoors but even more so for following Christ!

On Tuesday evening, Paul Dennis, field director with FCA Outdoors spoke, and on the final evening, Kevin “Chappy” Hines, the UGA chaplain, shared...

Beat The Heat With Inshore Pot-Luck Catching
Every saltwater angler worth his or her salt knows the best all-around fishing is to be had in either the spring or the fall months. If it’s too cold, fish seem to acquire a case of lockjaw. And if it’s too hot, they seem to just disappear. Well, July is here; it’s hot, and the saltwater fishing will be completely shut down. Those were my exact thoughts as I drove to Richmond...

GON's Tracking Dogs & Deer Coolers Lists
Here's GON's 2014-2015 Dial-a-Tracking Dog and Deer Coolers lists. Some folks have dropped off the lists this year, but there are some new faces, as well. If you have a deer down, these lists should provide everything you need to find it and get it to a cooler for storage or processing.

To add a dog or processor to either list, call GON at (800) 438-4663.
