Four Baits For A Target-Rich Lake Blackshear In May
More than most Georgia lakes, Lake Blackshear is what a bass fisherman would call a “target-rich” environment. Everywhere there are grassbeds, cypress trees, logs, stumps and docks that all look like they hold bass.

Fishing cypress trees is the basic pattern at Blackshear in the spring, according to Clint Brownlee of Tifton, a tournament angler who calls Blackshear his home lake.

Denney, Curl Win State Kids’ Top Six
Pouring rain didn’t hinder the Georgia Bass Chapter Federation Youth Top-Six Championship held April 5 at Lake Sinclair. Fishing from the same boat, Brandon Curl of the Bryan County Jr. Bassmasters won the 15- to 18-year-old age group with 10.67 pounds, and Mark Denney Jr. of Central Georgia Bassmasters weighed in 10.6 pounds to win the 11- to 14-year-old age group. Both anglers also took big-fish honors for their age divisions. Mark’s kicker weighed 6.11 pounds, and Brandon’s tipped the scales at 5.02 pounds. Both will now move on to the Junior World Championship to be held at Lake Monticello, S.C. Aug. 15-16.

With 10.01 pounds, Josh Tucker of the North Georgia Jr. Bass Anglers took second in the 11-14 division. Shae Smith of Jr. Bass Busters of Conyers weighed in 5.23 pounds to take third.

Getting Serious About Crappie
For most anglers, crappie fishing is an enjoyable way to spend a lazy day on the water filling the freezer with delicious table fare. Not so for Tim and Cathy Langham. This husband-and-wife tournament team takes crappie fishing very seriously. Even when they’re not fishing one of the Crappie USA events they frequent, they are competing. If there’s not another boat on the water,...

After amazing response from last year’s Skeeter Eliminator Series, GON had little choice but to announce a 2008 Skeeter Eliminator Series. Thanks to our title sponsor Skeeter, and our associate sponsor, Buckeye Lures, we’re able to bring...
