Crossroads Baptist Church held their latest “God’s Great Outdoors Ministry” event April 24-25 at Lake Oconee. In an effort to share God’s word in the great outdoors, they hosted “Jugging For Jesus,” a youth catfish jugging trip, where 30 kids caught more than 400 catfish.

Friends of Dr. Al West would be pleased to recall a recent Saturday on Lake Oconee, and more similar Saturdays to come.

Dr. West had a special interest in helping those with special needs and was particularly fond of taking these special people fishing.

When Dr. West passed away, many of his friends thought it a fitting tribute, with donations in lieu of flowers, to continue his program to take these people fishing.

His friends and family contacted GONetwork, inquiring if we could assist. It was an obvious and perfect fit.

On April 3, Eastanollee’s Terry McConnell caught a Lake Russell striper that pulled a set of certified propane scales to 63 1/4 pounds. That translates to 63-lbs., 4-ozs., which would beat the current Georgia state record. However, because the scales did not read in 1-oz. graduations, Georgia DNR may not accept Terry’s fish as the new record.
