Georgia Outdoor News is coming off its most successful Outdoor Blast to date. A record attendance of sportsmen rolled into the Macon Coliseum during the three-day, hunting-and-fishing trade show. If you missed out, here are the highlights.
Rattlesnakes can be frightening critters. But striking out and hitting a guy by surprise earned this Emanuel County rattler a hot spot on a Weber.
John Vescuso, of Swainsboro, was by himself penning some cattle on a friend’s farm...
A great aspect of the Truck-Buck contest is a format of weekly winners and wildcard winners that really levels the playing field for all Georgia deer hunters. You don’t have to hunt high-dollar leases or own jam-up deer property to have a chance to win weekly prizes — or even a new truck.
Last season’s truck winner, Jeremy Hulsey, of Shady Dale, didn’t even win his week. His buck tied for the Runner-up...
Once again, youth and teen-aged deer hunters in Georgia will have their very own weekly big-buck contest. The SEEDS Big-Buck Contest is back, and again the grand prize will be a deer and hog hunt with Woods-N-Water outfitters in Johnson County.
SEEDS is the youth program of the GONetwork, a non-profit sportsmen’s organization founded by Georgia Outdoor News magazine publisher Steve Burch.
Entering the 2010 SEEDS Big-Buck Contest is simple. Be 17 years of age or younger, and enter your buck in GON’s Truck-Buck contest. All youth 17 and under who enter Truck-Buck will also be entered in the SEEDS Big-Buck Contest. The highest-scoring buck entered each week will earn the youth a Realtree shirt and a spot in the SEEDS Shoot-Out for a chance to win the dream hunting trip with Woods-N-Water. Taking a wall-hanger is a dream most hunters and fishermen have every time they head to the woods or water. The buck of a lifetime or the biggest fish you ever caught is something to be proud of, and these trophies deserve a place of honor above your mantle or in your trophy room. They spur memories...
The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has pulled the plug on Lake Blue Ridge. A long-term drawdown will drop the lake to more than 60 feet below summer pool for at least six months. The purpose of the drawdown is to repair and improve the dam, but anglers can use this low-water period to scout the lake for structure and to catch fish that are squeezed into less than half the water they are used...
Winning an Eliminator championship is a 1-in-32 shot. It’s tough to do. But winning two Eliminator championships in just three years earns an angler an amazing amount of bragging rights. Last month, Aaron Batson, of Covington, earned those...
Here's GON's 2010 Dial-a-Trailing-Dog list. Some of our guys have dropped off the list this year, but there are some new faces, as well. If you've shot a deer and can't find it, call one of these guys. Their dogs may be able to find it for you.
To add a dog to the list, call GON at (800) 438-4663.
