Hunt Story

After letting nine different bucks walk this year and letting four other bucks get by us without a shot, it finally worked out. We settle in at 4:30. Small 4-pointer comes in the food plot around 4:45 p.m. and almost immediately begins looking to our left. We then catch movement of a really wide 8-pointer that was with a doe, and we begin the process of getting Bennett into position. The little buck runs the doe off of the property and the larger buck follows them off without us being able to get a shot. Thirty minutes later we see a small 6-pointer walk into the food plot from the other direction and begin to feed. A few minutes after being in the plot the 6-pointer begins looking to our right and stomps his foot. I find the deer he is stomping at and tell Bennett to get in position it is a shooter but is not the same buck from earlier. This buck walks out with ears pinned back and hair standing up, walks straight to the 6-pointer and circles him. The entire stand is shaking as Bennett is trying to calm his nerves. The larger buck finally stops broadside and the shot fires off. High fives and lots of excitement released. I find blood where the deer was standing at the shot and I tell Bennett that we should give the deer about an hour. We go home eat supper and get my cousin with his dog to go to trail the deer. The deer ran 75 yards and the dog led us straight to him.
