Hunt Story

We got in the woods right as it stopped raining and saw several deer on our way to the stand. When we made it to the stand at 4 p.m. there were already five does feeding under it. We took the deer activity that we had already seen as a good sign. After about 30 minutes a nice-sized doe fed in front of us and was followed by a young 8-pointer. A few minutes later we saw a bigger-bodied deer coming in from the same direction. When we saw his head, Nate immediately got his gun up. He fed right into our shooting lane, and Nate pulled the trigger. The buck acted like he was hit hard, but ran out of sight. When we got down we couldn't find any blood, so we gave him a little while. We eased down to the last place I saw him to look for blood, but I still couldn't find any. As I looked harder, Nate just pointed and said there he is. He was lying less than 5 yards from where I last saw him. Nate had made a perfect shot and had a great buck on the ground less than an hour into his first hunt of the year.
