Hunt Story

Long awaited kill... I have been hunting this area since the beginning of bow season this year. There have been multiple times I passed really nice bucks, but all were very young with a lot of potential. I thought this hunt would be my typical hunt where I may see 4 or 5 rack bucks in the 120- to 130-range chasing. My 75-year-old mother, who has always been an avid hunter with multiple big buck kills, said the only way to kill a big deer is to have some citrus fruit in the stand with me. Well, I took her advice that day and it worked. I'm sure she will remind me of this from now on. I was sitting in the stand when I noticed a beautiful piebald buck come out at my left to eat. I focused my camcorder on him and didn't realize the buck of a lifetime was walking out at 100 yards to the right. Once I saw the big buck, I started filming him, and that's when I knew he was the one to take. I quickly placed the camera down and took the shot with my Remington .270 WSM. The deer fell in his tracks and expired quickly.
