Hunt Story

Preston was hunting a hardwood ridge that bordered a fescue field. He was in his climbing stand well before daylight. Shooting light was late Saturday morning due to the extremely thick fog. Just as the sun was starting to burn some of the fog off, a gentle west wind pushed in another round. About 8:30, it was beginning to burn off again, and a doe came running out of the fog from across the field, jumped the fence ran right under his climbing stand. A minute or so later, Preston heard footsteps and was watching the field as this buck emerged out of the fog following the doe’s path. Preston grunted twice to stop the running buck, but he wouldn’t stop. As he slowed to jump the fence, Preston shot the buck right behind the shoulder and folded him up in his tracks.
