Hunt Story

I am privileged to be a member of the Herb Bonner Hunt Club, a long-standing group of sportsmen who have worked professionally to serve Georgia agriculture in the public sector. We hunt three days a year in Greene County. This buck was trailing a doe through planted pines with intermittent thickets of trifoliate orange. Hunting from a ground blind, shot selection was limited, but fortunately this buck paused in a narrow shooting lane. The only shot that was possible was a front quartering shot, which is less than ideal but all that I had. I shot and the deer immediately disappeared into the thickets. Two of our other club members helped with the search and soon found the buck despite the absence of a blood trail. This allowed me to win the prestigious Grits Award given to the Herb Bonner Hunt Club member who kills the largest buck at the annual hunt. This was truly the buck of my lifetime.
