Hunt Story
Me and my girlfriend were sitting in a buddy stand in clearcut when the stand busted loose and almost fell over while we were trying to peek at a buck I was grunting in. We did not feel safe in the stand anymore, so we climbed down. We crouched through waist high grass all the while I was grunting. Hearing footsteps quickly coming our way, we both dropped as low as possible and a heavy horned tall shooter 8-point dern near ran us over. He stopped about 15 paces away, and all I could see was antlers. I slowly raised up and before I could get a shot he bounded off. Feeling such a rush and hearing deer still in the oak bottom, I told her we should creep into the oak bottom to try and use up what little daylight we had to maybe bust a doe. Since it was only a single man stand, she opted to stay put near the double stand and let me do the sneaking. Well, as best as I could sneak, I still blew every deer out of that bottom. Feeling foolish, and drained from all the excitement I just stayed still, and within 10 minutes four different bucks came into my sight. Spike, 6pt, 8pt, and the 10pt. Not knowing he was a 10 (I knew he was at least a "shooter 8") I raised the rifle and peered at him through the scope. He stepped in the shooting lane quartering away and munched on the acorns. Turned broadside and I squeezed off my shot. Not confident about the shot, I decided to "when in doubt, back out" and check for him in the morning. If you've ever had this happen, you know the awful silent ride back to camp!! Next morning my best friend hunted the stand and got down afterwards to go have a look. I received a text that said "GOT HIM" followed by "FREAKING 10 point!!!!!!! I hate you". The buck is now at the taxidermist, and I am writing my Truck-Buck entry.
