Hunt Story

Well after several years of chasing and watching this buck, it finally came together the evening. I have hunted this buck the past two seasons without a single sighting. He has been a midnight rover on camera. In past years he was on my small tract from mid summer until Early October then he would disappear. This summer I did not get a single picture of him. Have been running cameras since July. On October 17th, Crabby showed on on a scrape in the middle of the night like normal. I decided to hunt him today as I have seen chasing all over my area the past couple days. I have only hunted the particular area with a bow for the last seven years, but with the rain I decided to take the rifle. I got into my lock-on at 2 pm. At 2:30 a spike cruises by that looks exhausted. His mouth was open and his tongue was hanging out. At 5:30 or so I heard leaves to my right rustling. With the rain that had been falling must of the evening the woods were saturated and silent. I looked to my right and saw the limb of a beech tree moving about 12 yards behind me to my right. I look close and see that it's a buck working a scrape. I immediately recognize the buck as Crabby! I get ready, and when he clears the limbs, I steady the crosshairs and squeeze a round off into his shoulder at 10 yards. (Wish I had my bow) The buck has all kinds of character with numerous kicker points.
