Hunt Story

My Father and I have been watching this deer on our small Clay County property for the last 3 years. We believe him to be 4.5 years old this year, and he has been the dominant buck on all our trail-cam pictures and videos. All summer long he and several other bucks in his group have been on a regular schedule at our feeder in the afternoons, so I decided if he kept to his pattern I would try to take him on opening day. I placed a stand on the primary trail that they always take to the feeder and just like clockwork he showed up right on time on opening day. The shot was 30-35 yards, and I watched him fall only yards from where I had taken the shot. It's very unusual for a plan to actually work out the way you want, especially with deer, but that's just what happened with this one. I credit this buck to my father Jerry Powell, without his knowledge of this deer and his habits, I'd never have got a shot at him.
