Snakes Shows, Seminars Scheduled For Blast

GON Staff | July 12, 2018

In the last decade, food plots have changed the face of deer hunting. In fact, most hunting clubs today have some sort of planted food plot they’ve either scratched in the dirt or brought in heavy equipment to create. Either way, if those plots aren’t properly built and taken care of, it’ll minimize the end results that could occur.

This year at the Outdoor Blast, Alabama Liquid Fertilizer will again host a booth but has bolted on a special seminar on Saturday at 3 p.m. The seminar will center around fertilizer and food plots, and topics will include:

• Fertilizer utilization in your plots.

• Soil samples and how soil pH affects fertilizer utilization.

• How proper fertilization can benefit your wildlife.

• How to mitigate fertilizer loss.

• The benefits of year-round food plots.

• Q&A on anything pertaining to food plots and fertilizer.

“At Alabama Liquid Fertilizer and Supply, we are passionate about food plots and the outdoors,” said Chris Grantham with Alabama Liquid Fertilizer and Supply Inc. “We are excited to have the opportunity to help educate others on how to get the most out of their food plots and enhance their outdoor experience.

“This is our third year at the GON Outdoor Blast, and we look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones. If anyone has questions, come by our booth to see us. And this year you can meet our friend Marty Fischer from If It Flies (TV) on Saturday. Thanks to GON for providing such a great venue outdoor enthusiasts.”

Steve Scruggs

Also, Steve Scruggs and his “Snakes Alive” show will be coming back to the Outdoor Blast.

Steve’s Snakes Alive show teaches how to identify venomous vs. non-venomous snakes, what to do if bitten, how to avoid being bitten and laws associated with snakes. To go through all this, Steve will have plenty of snakes to show, including some big rattlers.

In addition to four, hour-long shows, Steve will have a large display on the floor of the Outdoor Blast that will be full of snakes, and he will be on hand to speak with show-goers all weekend.

Georgia Mountain Falconry, with Buster Brown and Damon Lusky, will be at the Outdoor Blast this year with a number of awesome raptors.

“Blast patrons will have access to various equipment and training methods for our sport, and we will have a variety of birds, including hawks, falcons and owls, including the largest species of owl in the world, the Eurasian Eagle Owl,” Buster said.

In addition to having an exhibit where folks can see the raptors all weekend, there will three “Introduction to Falconry” seminars.
