To compete for weekly prizes and a spot in the Truck-Buck Shoot-Out, an entrant’s rack must be officially scored during one of two GON scoring events. Any hunter with a buck entered in this season’s contest is invited to have the rack officially scored either in Tifton on Feb. 25 or in Madison on March 11.
We will have Boone & Crockett measurers score each rack, and Truck-Buck entrants will receive an official score.
For now… sit back, relax, and enjoy that good feeling of having killed a good buck this season! You will bring only the skull plate/rack to the scoring event. If you’re having your buck mounted, your taxidermist will cut out the skull plate to separate it from the cape. The cape will be frozen, while the rack/skull plate typically hangs on a wire in the taxidermy shop until it’s time to work on your mount. If you are coming to the scoring event, tell your taxidermist not to start on your mount until after the scoring event. We can’t measure mounted heads for the Truck-Buck contest.
During both scoring event dates, racks can be dropped off from 9 a.m. until noon. No racks will be accepted after the noon deadline. All racks must be picked up at a time specified the day of the event, likely between 1-3 p.m. It is impossible to give racks back in any order based on when they were dropped off. Also, we absolutely cannot accommodate special circumstances and usher a rack through more quickly. Plan on it taking most of the day. Please bring patience!
Winners will be required to take polygraph exams before competing in the Shoot-Out and earning contest prizes.
No mounted heads or racks with split skull plates will be scored. We will measure velvet racks; however, if a velvet rack wins a scoring period and it might not win without the velvet, it will be required that the velvet be stripped and the rack re-scored before winning a scoring period. Entrants are not required to deliver or retrieve their racks in person. However, if the person retrieving the rack is someone other than the entrant, they must show their picture ID and a letter signed by the entrant saying who is picking up the rack. Everyone picking up a rack will be asked to show photo ID.
