Hunt Story

Thanks everyone! It was a great morning in the woods. Didn't get in the stand till after daylight. About 11 a.m. three bucks came down the trail heading left to right. Shot the last one (the 4-point, the other two were bigger, 6 and an 8, I believe). The biggest of the three walked through the opening first, didn't shoot it because I wasn't sure what was behind it. The second one never stopped, but the third one did. He dead. Lol. Then 5 minutes later, four does came down the same trail from right to left. They didn't even pay any attention to the 4-point that was laying in the trail that they had to walk around. Almost took one of them, but let them get in to thick stuff while I was deciding. Then around 1 p.m. I looked back over at the trail and the 9-point was sniffing the 4-point. Grabbed my rifle, but he was already walking behind some trees before I could get on him. I followed him through the trees till the next opening and shot him. I thought he hit the ground, but couldn't see him. Then I saw tines staggering toward me through the trees. Walking dead. When he got clear of the trees, I saw how big he was. I probably should have let him walk as far as he could make it cause he was coming toward me. But those tines got me and I put another bullet in him at him at about 50 yards. He showed no sign of being hit. So he got another round and hit the ground. The first shot was the big bloody spot in the picture. The 2nd and 3rd shots were 1-inch to each side of it. That was the fun part! Getting them out 4/10ths of a mile (following the trail in), uphill, was no fun at all. But I have some great friends that helped. And I wouldn't trade today.
