Hunter: Matt Hughes
Points: 10 (5L, 5R)
His name is “Split.” He was given that name due to having a split left ear. My family and I have watched him grow through hundreds of trail-cam pictures and videos on our farm since the middle of May. This has been a great way to get my nephew introduced to all the different aspects of scouting and hunting deer. Needing an east wind, it wasn’t until Tuesday before I could get in the stand to hunt him. Not seeing him Tuesday, I checked my cameras at lunch Wednesday to find he came through Wednesday morning before daylight. Hoping he was still laid up in the thicket, I was back in my climber that evening on a plot of peas he has been visiting on a regular basis. He read the script. He came into the plot right before dark offering me an 8-yard quartering-away shot. He ran about 90 yards leaving a great blood trail for my Dad, friend Todd and myself to track.
