Wayne County Hog Jam Features $10K Payout

GON Staff | February 9, 2015

The Wayne County Hog Jam returns to Jesup Fairgrounds the weekend of Feb. 20-22. Last year’s event attracted hunters from 50 communities and six different states. The hog-hunting event is sponsored by the Wayne County Board of Tourism and continues to grow each year.

More than 200 hog hunters signed up for last year’s hunt. Some of those hunters included ten Wounded Warriors and a dozen young hunters who entered a special youth category. Prizes are awarded for the largest individual hog and total weight of all hogs brought in by a team (stringer). Categories include bow and gun hunters, dog-hunting teams, longest tusk, and there’s a bonus category for the biggest coyote.

Most of the hunters donate the hogs, which were cleaned last year at no charge by a group of volunteers. The meat will be donated to local food kitchens.
