A long sportmen’s weekend featuring three days of non-stop events for camo-clad die-hards and their families is coming in just a few shorts weeks.

The 2010 Outdoor Blast is July 23-25 at the Macon Centreplex. This outdoor event is run by the folks at GON magazine and offers hunters and anglers special events, contests, kid activities and hundreds of outdoor vendors.

The Outdoor Blast is a show that caters to hunters and fishermen by providing what they want to see when they come to a show — hunting and fishing stuff — and at a reasonable price. Admission is only $6 for adults, and children 12 and younger get in free. A unique aspect to the Blast is vendors who don’t offer hunting- or fishing-related products aren’t allowed — no foot-massage vendors will be crowding up aisle space.

A highlight of the Blast is the Truck-Buck Shoot-Out. In addition, this year’s show-goers will be a part of history as they witness the first-ever, youth-only SEEDS Shoot-Out on Saturday evening.

For the third straight year, the Blast will host the Georgia State Duck Calling Contest. A state champ will be crowned, and we’ll find out who gets a ticket to call in Stuggart, Ark. at the World’s Duck Calling Championship. The Georgia State event begins at 4 p.m. on July 23. Entry is $40, and competitors can sign up just prior to the contest. Following the Georgia State event, there will be the State Meat and Two-Man championships. Entry is $25 per person for those events. For more information, contact Daryl at GON (800) 438-4663.

Other Blast highlights include:

• Cook-competition teams will compete in the Georgia Barbecue Association’s “BBQ Blast.” For more information, see page 56.

• The Georgia Bowhunter Classic runs all weekend. Show up with your bow, shoot and compete for money.

• Kids are always a Blast emphasis, and again there will be lots of free activities to keep the kids happy and entertained.

• The “Wall of Fame” displays last season’s best bucks.

The Macon Centreplex is located just off I-16 at Coliseum Drive. For information about the Blast, call GON at (800) 438-4663.
