Lake Weiss Fishing Report March 2016

Weiss: Level: 3.8 feet below full pool. Temp: Upper 40s. Clarity: Stained.

Bass: Fair. Guide Mark Collins reports, “Cold fronts have shut down the largemouth. The spotted bass are still biting fair in the Chattooga and Little rivers. Drop-shot rigs, Carolina rigs and Alabama rigs are catching fish. Look for some good largemouth to turn on with any warming trend that comes in.”

Crappie: Mark reports, “Crappie fishing is awesome, and they are being caught long-line trolling with Jiffy Jigs in colors JJ13, JJ17, JJ20, JJ24 in Little River, Little Spring Creek and the coves at Riverside Campground. Crappie are also being caught on a float-n-fly technique in these same locations. Crappie are also being caught around deeper docks tightlining jigs.”

Stripers: Poor. Mark reports, “They have moved up the Coosa River for their spring spawning run.”

Catfish: Good Mark reports, “They biting in the flats on cut bait.”
