Lake Tobesofkee Fishing Report April 2016

GON Staff | March 30, 2016

Tobesofkee: Level: Full. Temp: 65 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Clayton Batts reports, “Bass are on the beds and starting to pair up. I was out there on March 23 and caught several in the 4- to 5-lb. range sight fishing and found one that was pushing 10. Look for beds in the backs of pockets around sandy areas. Key places are around docks, outside grasslines and any laydowns that you see. These fish can be caught multiple ways, but sight fishing for them is by far my favorite. My favorite baits for this technique are a green-pumpkin Big Bite Baits Fighting Frog or a Big Bite Baits Warmouth in war-party color. A white Strikezone Lure swim jig with a shad-colored Zombie fish trailer or a black Strikezone Lure buzzbait are great ways to catch them if you choose to not sight fish. I always have a wacky-rigged Big Bite Baits Trick Stick rigged up for fish that come up and miss these baits. As April rolls along, look for the spawn to get better and better and the early spawners to start feeding up again by the end of the month. You will be able to catch these fish in the same areas and on the same baits that you are catching the prespawn and spawning fish on.”
