Lake Russell Fishing Report April 2016

GON Staff | March 30, 2016

Russell: Level: Full pool. Temp: Low 60s. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Kerry Partain reports, “The bass have really been biting the last few weeks, and this should continue to improve as we move into April. We have been catching numbers of fish shallow on Texas-rigged worms around any cover you can find, especially in the pockets off the main lake and in the creeks. There are still a lot of fish on secondary points, and we are catching them on jerkbaits and Carolina-rigged worms anywhere from 5 to 20 feet around rocks and wood. Most of the fish we are catching have been between 1 to 2 pounds, but there are a lot of them, and they have been easy to catch. With the water temperatures in the 60s, there will be some bigger fish pulling up shallow to spawn, so fish the pockets as the sun gets up, and hit any cover close by with the Texas rig or jig.”
