Lake Jackson Fishing Report January 2017

GON Staff | December 22, 2016

Jackson: Level: 2.6 feet low. Temp: Upper 50s. Clarity: Stained

Bass: Tournament angler Keith Dawkins reports, “January can be a time to catch some big bass on Jackson.  Concentrate on rocks and docks near deep water. Use black-and-blue jigs, as well as Shad Raps in shad colors for clear water or crawfish color in stained water. When the sun gets up, you can also hit rocky points with the same baits, as well as a Fat Free Shad bumped off the rocky bottom. Make multiple casts, and try to slow your retrieve down. Another strategy that can be effective is using your electronics to find bait off of creek channels or points, and then cast a Fish Head Spin with a Baby Fluke as a trailer, or fish vertically with a 1/2-oz. jigging spoon.”
