Lake Hartwell Fishing Report March 2017

GON Staff | March 1, 2017

Hartwell: Level: 9.3 feet below full pool. Temp: 58-60 degrees. Clarity: Mostly clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Kerry Partain reports, “This is one of the best times of the year to be on Hartwell to catch fish and have a chance at big trophy bass. Right now you can catch numbers of quality bass deep and also catch some big fish up shallow as the sun warms the water up. To catch the deeper spotted bass, I like to use drop shots and shaky-head worms in 15 to 25 foot on points. For the shallow bass in the creeks and in the transition areas to spawning pockets, you can catch them on crankbaits, jerkbaits and spinnerbaits. Once the water begins to warm into the 60s this month, I will begin working the spawning areas to look for cruising fish and bass on the beds.”
