Lake Eufaula Fishing Report December 2016

GON Staff | November 22, 2016

Eufaula: Level: 3.8 feet below 190 full pool. Temp: Mid 60s. Clarity: Clear to lightly stained.

Bass: Tournament angler David Lowery reports, “Fishing is a little slow on Eufaula now due to lack of rain and warm temps. You can still catch bass early on a frog around shallow grass. I like a Spro Popping Frog in the rainforest color. Also, flipping a Big Bite 5-inch Fighting Frog in the grass and pads has been producing bites. Try green pumpkin and black and blue. Swim a 5-inch Cane thumper in pearl white in the grass if you find fish hitting bait. Also, there has been a jig bite up the river. Try flipping a 3/8-oz. All Terrain flipping jig in blowdowns. Use a black-and-blue jig with a craw as a trailer. If we get some rain or cooler weather, these techniques should keep working and get better.” Tournament angler Les Bratcher reports, “Bass fshing on Lake Eufaula is very good right now as the water is cooling down and the bass are more active. We fished the Eufaula Bass Trail Classic this weekend, and it took more than 37 pounds to win. Eufaula bass are being caught two ways right now. Anglers reported good catches of bass out of the hydrilla on topwater and punching plastics. While the other group of anglers talked about the ledges in 8 to 10 feet of water, and they were throwing citrus crankbaits and Carolina-rigged plastics. It’s already time to get ready for spring with the spawn just around the corner.” Guide Sam Williams reports, “Bass are hitting good. There are loads of short fish to be caught, making it fun. The spotted bass have no limit, so you can eat all you catch. Short worms on a shaky-head jig are working really well on spots. Jerkbaits and lipless cranks are a good bet, also.”
