Lake Chatuge Fishing Report June 2018

GON Staff | May 31, 2018

Chatuge: Level: 1 foot above full pool. Temp: 75-78 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Eric Welch reports, “The fishing has been great. There has been an awesome topwater bite the first couple hours in the morning around pockets, brush and spawning flats. Lures of choice have been a Strike King Sexy Dawg, a Pop-R and a Whopper Plooper. You can also swing back and fish the same areas with a 3.5-inch tube and a shaky head and pick up fish that are staged out in 12 to 20 feet that have not moved out to deeper water yet. When the sun gets up, I start looking for offshore fish that are hanging around humps and off old roadbeds. I target these fish with a drop shot with a Roboworm 4.5-inch in morning dawn, sometimes changing to a 6-inch worm to target bigger spotted bass. I also fish a 2.75-inch Strike King Rage Swimmer on a 1/4-oz. jig head. Dock fishing should start picking up as the fish go to their summer patterns. Target these fish with a 3/8-oz. jig in the pb&j color, a drop shot, a shaky head and a Texas-rigged green-pumpkin bait. On windy days, throw a 3/8-oz. spinnerbait in white/chartreuse around laydowns or a Strike King 2.5 squarebill crankbait in a shad pattern. At night, throw a Norman DD22, a black spinnerbait and a Texas rig with a Zoom Trick Worm.”
