Lake Blackshear Fishing Report March 2016

GON Staff | February 24, 2016

Blackshear: Level: 0.4 feet below full pool. Temp: 51-54 degrees. Clarity: Clearing.

Crappie: Rusty Parker reports, “The crappie should finally be biting great by the time you get this issue of GON. For the past few weeks, I have not had many good reports at all because of all the bad and erratic weather. Crappie should be moving up into the spawning shallows by the second week of March. I talked to one man on Feb. 17 who had close to his limit by tightlining minnows in 12 to 15 feet of water. I talked to another individual who was able to catch 16 nice slabs, and he was using Sore Lips Crappie Jigs (formerly R.A.G. Jigs). He told me the best color for him was chartreuse/chartreuse/chartreuse and black/chartreuse/chartreuse. Brad at Flint River Outdoors is the only tackle shop that has Sore Lip Jigs. I will predict we will see a lot of nice slabs being caught in March. A few places to try now are Cedar Creek, Collins Branch and Swift Creek. As crappie move into the shallows during the spawn, follow them into the backs of these creeks and try the trees. May your catch be large and plentiful, and God bless everyone.”
