Lake Allatoona Fishing Report June 2017

GON Staff | June 1, 2017

Allatoona: Level: 1.2 feet above full. Temp: 81 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Matt Driver reports, “Fishing is great. The topwater bite is going strong. Fish are feeding good as they make a change toward a summer pattern. Most fish have moved to a mid-depth pattern in 10 to 14 feet of water, but fish are scattered through all depths. The topwater and mid-depth bites will continue and begin to drop off toward the end of the month as fish move deeper and suspend.  The first part of the month, a jig and a jig-head finesse worm are hard to beat, but as bass transition deeper, a small swimbait, like the Big Bite Baits 3.5-inch Cane Thumper, will be a great choice. Fish it on a 3/16-oz. jig head on 7-lb. Sunline fluorocarbon. Slow-reel it over long, deep points around Red Top. The drop shot fished on bluff walls in the mid lake is always a good way to catch good numbers of spots. Find shady areas as the sun gets higher in the sky. If you’re taking the kids fishing, the bluff walls are also great places to catch some good bream. Fish a split-shot rig with a live cricket for the best result.  Remember shade is key.”

Linesides: Guide Robert Eidson reports, “Lineside fishing is off the charts! The fish have moved out of the rivers and back into the lake. The summer pattern is already setting up. Downlining threadfins and small gizzards are the ticket. Mid-lake (Kellogg-Galts-Bartow Carver) is fishing well. There is also a good bite in the Allatoona Creek arm. Tanyard Creek, Clark Creek, Iron Hill and from the 75 bridge to the spillway are all good places to look. Every hump and point should have some fish on them. The bite can get crazy at times. Carry plenty of bait with you. If netting isn’t your thing, Striper Soup has plenty of bait on hand. After the live-bait bite is over, start pulling your umbrella rigs. Chartreuse has been the best color for bucktails on the umbrella rig. Pull them 120 feet behind the boat at 3.1 mph.”
