Gwinnett County and Duluth may never be the same. GON and a cast of outdoor characters are rolling into town Aug. 3-5. The Outdoor Blast—a three-day gathering of sportsmen, camo-wearing gals and smiling kids—is coming to the Gwinnett Center.

Among this year’s attendees are Troy and Jacob Landry, rock stars of the Louisiana bayou. Come meet the man who made famous the phrase “Choot ’em!” Father-and-son gator hunters Troy and Jacob Landry from the History Channel show “Swamp People” will be at the show Saturday to sign autographs.

Also slogging out of the bayous will be some of the nation’s top duck callers. On Sunday, Aug. 5, the Outdoor Blast will host the Georgia State Duck Calling Contest, which crowns the state champ and sends him or her off to the World Contest in Stuttgart, Ark. The sanctioned state-championship event will begin at 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning—you won’t miss church if you come early and catch our special church service for sportsmen.

Last year’s Georgia State Meat Contest, which follows the state championship, attracted two national-champion callers, plus top callers from Florida, Missouri, Arkansas, Maryland and South Carolina. There’s also an entertaining Georgia Two-Man Meat Contest. For more info, go to <facebook.com/georgiaduckcalling>.

Come meet the folks from GON during the weekend of activities, which also include hundreds of hunting and fishing vendors; antler measuring by certified B&C scorers; and a display of the state’s best bucks of the past season. And of course there’s the GON Truck-Buck Shoot-Out. Watch the drama unfold as a pellet-rifle competition decides who drives away in a new Chevy from John Megel Chevrolet.
