There may not be a better way to start practicing for bow season than to enter the Georgia Bowhunter Classic at GON’s Outdoor Blast, a family-friendly hunting and fishing show July 22-24 at the Macon Centreplex.
The Georgia Bowhunter Classic, hosted by “Southern Woods n’ Water” TV show and Obsession Archery Inc., is a 3-D archery tournament designed to attract men, women and kid archers.
“The whole competition is about fun. We’ve got classes for the beginner up to the pro,” said Dennis Lewis, who hosts “Southern Woods n’ Water” and is president of Obsession Archery Inc.
“With hunting season around the corner, it’s a good time to take the bow out and enter. Archers will be shooting at 3-D targets between 15 and 32 yards. They can shoot at bear, deer, hogs and turkeys. Archers will get to shoot at two moving targets, too.”
Shooters can show up at the Blast and shoot beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 22. The range, which will be set up inside in an air-conditioned environment, will be open all day Saturday, and the latest time to enter the tournament will be 3 p.m. on Sunday.
The shoot is set up just like you’re in a hunting situation. You’ll have 10 seconds between shots. You can compete as many times as you like, and your highest score will be the one that counts. Dennis said hunters will need a minimum of five arrows to compete. No broadheads.
