As always, sportsmen who attended the Outdoor Blast got to see hundreds of hunting and fishing vendors. Look for an increase in vendors and activities in 2011.

Georgia Outdoor News is coming off its most successful Outdoor Blast to date. A record attendance of sportsmen rolled into the Macon Coliseum during the three-day, hunting-and-fishing trade show. If you missed out, here are the highlights.

• Truck-Buck Shoot-Out: Jeremy Hulsey, of Shady Dale, busted an egg at 60 feet to win this year’s Truck-Buck Shoot-Out. He drove home in a new Chevy from John Megel Chevrolet in Dawsonville. Ronnie Adams, of Gay, took home the 4-wheeler from Mountain Motorsports.

• SEEDS Shoot-Out: The first-ever youth Shoot-Out was held at the Blast. Several of the young shooters made it to the late rounds and were drilling eggs, but it was Grayson York, of Martin, who shot flawlessly and won a deer- and hog-hunting trip with Woods-N-Water this November.

• Georgia State Duck Calling Contest: A record number of duck callers blew in this year’s Georgia State Duck Calling Contest. Clint Shipman, of Byron, won the event and is headed back to Arkansas to blow in the World event. It was Clint’s second state title.

• Deer Wall of Fame: Some of the state’s best deer from the 2009 season were on display. Included in those mounts were Susie Tate’s Boone & Crockett from Upson County. Show-goers enjoyed meeting Susie and hearing her story. She’s the only female to ever take a Georgia Booner.

• The Georgia Bowhunter Classic: Dennis Lewis’ Georgia Bowhunter Classic had bow shooters of all ages and skills flinging arrows throughout the weekend. This portion of the Blast continues to grow and spark interest from those who’ve never shot a bow.

• Kids: Youth activities included inflatables, rock walls, face painting and a hunter-eduction class with an obstacle course.

• BBQ Blast: As always, the parking lot was smelling fantastic. Some Blast attendees braved the heat to get samples, and a few even left with some good BBQ recipes.

June 22-24, 2011: Plans are in the works to make the 2011 Outdoor Blast even better. Currently, GON is looking to expand booth numbers and show activities.

• Booths: Since the Blast is the first trade show of the deer-hunting season, we’re providing more opportunities for vendors to come. However, don’t waste time if you want to purchase booth space. Space is already booking. See opposite page for info.

• New Additions: One of several new additions to next year’s Blast is a Scoring Weekend and Buck Awards program.

This scoring event will allow hunters to get an official Boone & Crockett/Pope & Young score sheet on a rack, plus that score will automatically be included in GON’s County-by-County, Fab 40, Triple Digit Bucks and all other Georgia buck rankings applicable for the racks.
