Pete Mincey, of Carlton, won a dramatic 2009 Truck-Buck Shoot-Out and drove home in a new pickup truck. Here, Pete is congratulated by Jonathan Megel, of John Megel Chevrolet, a longtime Truck-Buck sponsor that makes the contest possible.

Like to deer hunt, and in the market for a new truck? Or maybe you need a new Browning deer rifle or top-of-line Mathews compound bow?

Just make sure you’re a GON subscriber this deer season, because we’re giving away another pickup truck and more than 80 other great prizes in our big-buck contest, the Truck-Buck Shoot-Out. Don’t be like the folks we hear from every year who unexpectedly kill giant bucks, but who couldn’t enter the contest because they let their GON subscription expire or simply bought the magazine at the convenience-store rack every month.

The grand-prize truck, provided again by longtime contest sponsor John Megel Chevrolet, will go to the winner of the Shoot-Out, a pellet-rifle competition among weekly winners. The second-place finisher in the Shoot-Out will earn a Suzuki King Quad 400 4-wheeler from Mountain Motorsports.

GON’s Truck-Buck contest is entering its 22nd year. The contest is divided into scoring periods that coincide with the weeks of deer season. Each week, the best buck entered from the Northern Zone and the best buck from the Southern Zone win great prizes and earn a spot in the Shoot-Out. To win prizes and have a shot at the new truck and 4-wheeler in the Shoot-Out, you don’t have to kill the biggest buck in the state. You only have to kill the highest-scoring buck during a week of the deer season in your hunting zone.

Hunters can also make the Shoot-Out through four wildcard divisions: Youth, Ladies, Public Land and Runner-Up. Two hunters from each category will qualify — the largest rack of the season in each category for both the Northern and Southern zones.

Entering a buck is simple. There are no check stations. Follow the instructions, and enter online at <www.gon.com> or mail the entry form found on page 71.

The Truck-Buck contest, an institution in the Georgia deer-hunting community for more than 20 years, is possible only because of the support and generosity of loyal sponsors. Making Truck-Buck possible are John Megel Chevrolet, Mountain Motorsports, Browning, Mathews, CVA, Bug Tamer, Hunter Safety System, Realtree and Tinks. Thank them, and please consider our great sponsors when in the market for any of the products they offer.

If you’d like to participate in this year’s Truck-Buck contest, just be a GON subscriber and enter your buck by following the instructions and rules on pages 71-72.
