Four Kids Will Win a SEEDS Fishing Trip to Lake Oconee
Fishing guides Mark Smith and Doug Nelms have partnered to host a SEEDS Fishing Day at Lake Oconee Friday, April 10 for stripers and hybrids.
“We’ll launch at the dam, which is where the linesides stack up in the spring,” said Mark. “We’ll go fish the buoy line with live bait. We’ll probably fish some planers, flatlines and downlines. One day they’ll hit downlines, the next day flatlines. It just depends.”
The trip is for four SEEDS members and one parent each. Parents and kids need to be at the Lawrence Shoals boat ramp at 7 a.m., and the trip will last until about 12 p.m. Kids will need to have the appropriate clothing, snacks and drinks. Winners’ parents need a fishing license. Bring a camera, too. This will likely be a fun day with lots of catching going on.
“I love taking kids fishing,” said Mark. “There’s nothing I enjoy more than when they hang into a fish that won’t come in.”
Mark guides mostly on Oconee, but he will guide for stripers on Lanier. His web address is <reeltimeguideser vice.com>. He can be reached for guide trips at (404) 803-0741.
Doug Nelms guides on Oconee. In addition to taking folks out for linesides, he guides for Oconee’s big slab crappie, too. Doug can be reached at (770) 354-0300. His website is <www.fishingoconee.com>.

Tifton, Madison To Host GONetwork Scoring
If you’ve entered a buck in the GONetwork or SEEDS big-buck contests, you’ll have to have your antlers scored at one of two GONetwork/Truck-Buck scoring events in order to compete for grand prizes.
Scoring event No. 1: The first chance to get antlers scored is in Tifton on Saturday, Feb. 28 at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center. In Tifton, racks can be dropped off Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to noon. No racks will be accepted after the noon deadline.
Directions to the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center: From I-75 take exit 64. Turn onto Hwy 41 north. Travel approximately 0.2 miles, and take the first road to the left, which is RDC Road. The Conference Center is on the left.
Scoring event No. 2: The second, and last, chance to get your rack scored will be at the GONetwork office in Madison on Saturday March 14. In Madison, racks can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to noon. No racks will be accepted after the noon deadline.
Directions to the GONetwork office: From I-20 take the Madison/Hwy 441 exit, and go south about 7 miles. Turn left at Seven Islands Road (Joe’s Store is on right). The GONetwork office is 1 mile on the left at the intersection of Bethany Church Road and Seven Islands Road.
Only bucks officially entered in GONetwork, SEEDS or Truck-Buck contests this season will be scored on these days. No mounted heads or racks with split skull plates will be scored. Entrants are not required to deliver or retrieve their rack in person. However, if the person retrieving the rack is someone other than the entrant, they must show their picture I.D., a photocopy of the entrant’s picture I.D. and a letter signed by the entrant stating the name of the person to who is picking up the rack. Again, racks can’t
be picked up until Saturday afternoon. Everyone will be asked to show photo I.D. when retrieving a rack.
Results will be released by March 18 at the GONetwork website <www.georgiaoutdoornetwork.org>. If you have questions, please call GONetwork at (800) 866-5516.
