Over the last 18 years, GON’s Truck-Buck Shoot-Out has grown into a big event. This year, the plan is to give it a new permanent home — and to make it part of a brand-new event for sportsmen.

GON’s Outdoor Blast is coming to the Macon Centreplex the weekend of August 10-12, and the Shoot-Out will be held in conjunction with this massive celebration of all things hunting and fishing. Like a typical outdoors show, there will be booths with vendors, but this will be no flea market. The Outdoor Blast will be a family-focused celebration, with things to do for the kids that are fun and educational, and of course there will be plenty for the adults to enjoy, as well.

For hunters, one of the main attractions to the Outdoor Blast will be the Land Management Expo, where experts at managing land for wildlife will be on-hand to talk about food plots, quality-deer management and a variety of other land and management issues. With proven results, the best in the business will be there to help you make the most of your land.

Backyard chefs will have the opportunity to hone their skills, as well — cooking groups will be at the Centreplex all three days sharing tips and recipes for outdoor cooking. And of course there will be samples! The Backyard BBQ Blast will also will be held at the Blast. Sponsored by Blake Richards Investment Co. and GON, proceeds from the Saturday barbecue cook-off will go to GONetwork’s SEEDS program that is working hard to get kids involved in hunting and fishing.

The Georgia Taxidermy Association (GTA) has already reserved room at the Outdoor Blast for its annual statewide convention and awards event. GTA members will have displays of some of their best work in Macon. A unique, indoor archery tournament will be held in conjunction with the show, too, and folks will have the opportunity to watch some fine archers in action.

And, if you prefer guns to bows, the Truck-Buck Shoot-Out is sure to grab your attention. The weekly winners of this year’s GON big-buck contest, which include five kids, will compete in a nerve-racking, pellet-gun shoot-out for the coveted title of Shoot-Out Champion and a brand-new Chevy truck provided by John Megel Chevrolet. The GONetwork and SEEDs big-buck drawings will be held at the Outdoor Blast.

For the kids, there will be archery and gun activities, as well as the chance to learn a little about fishing. And, that’s just the beginning. Mark August 10-12 on your calendar, because the Outdoor Blast is lining up a host of hunting- and fishing-related activities that hunters, anglers and their families won’t want to miss.
